Citizens and Subjects: Practices and Debates is part of the Dutch contribution to the 52nd International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, 2007, which accompanies the project of artist Aernout Mik in the Dutch Pavilion (Citizens and Subjects: Aernout Mik) and a critical reader published on this occasion (Citizens and Subjects: The Netherlands, for example), edited by Rosi Braidotti, Charles Esche and Maria Hlavajova. Citizens and Subjects is curated by Maria Hlavajova. Taking the work Citizens and Subjects by Aernout Mik as its point of departure, Practices and Debates is a series of lectures, seminars, conversations and a master course envisioned as an extension of the Dutch Pavilion ‘back’ to the Netherlands and to other sites of ‘practices’ and ‘debates’ invested in the urgent task of contributing to a new imaginary about the world.
