From Saturday 18 April until Sunday 2 August 2009, BAK, basis voor actuele kunst in Utrecht and the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven present Urgent Matters, a two-part solo exhibition by Sanja Ivekoviæ. The opening takes place on Saturday 18 April 2009 at 14.00 hrs at the Van Abbemuseum and at 19.00 hrs at BAK.
A re-enactment of Ivekovic’s performance Übung Macht den Meister (Practice Makes a Master), originally realized in 1982 in Berlin, takes place at 20.00 hrs at BAK (performed by Sonja Pregrad). On Thursday 28 May 2009, BAK and the Van Abbemuseum organize the symposium When is Feminism in Art? The Case of Sanja Ivekoviæ. This one-day symposium aims to contribute to the knowledge and understanding of the history of art in the Central and Eastern European region through a concrete case of the evolution of a feminist position in a particular cultural and political topography.
